jack-6915801Jack will sit on the windowsill worshipping the sun, and act like it’s worshipping him.  Dignified and reserved, he is somewhat independent, but has an affectionate and lap loving side as well.  Jack lived with a dog and 2 other cats, so you could consider adding him to your group..and with children 7+ years old.  Find out how to take Jack or another cool cat home…at PlacerSPCA.org.

truman200Whenever the topic of Poker in the White House comes up, the name mentioned  most often is Harry Truman.  I guess he was quite a player.   As it turns out, the stakes at his poker club, the Harpie Club, were ten cents with three raises, and the group met one night a week to play.  President Truman apparently had a fondness of staying in a hand to the very end simply to see what the other player was holding.  Today, he’d be known as “a calling station” or ATM.  I suppose that’s a good quality for the nation’s highest office…. Being curious.  I do love his chip set, which resides in the Harry S. Truman Library.

new-eating-paper-200x1501A company in New Jersey has developed a way to mix artificial flavors and….printer ink? Yep. The result is a new product called “Taste it Notes”, sticky pads that taste like foods, spices or alcohol (!) . In the future, the plan is apparently for magazine ads to taste exactly like the food being pictured, as long as you’re willing to eat the paper….

electric2As companies try to cut cost in today’s economic meltdown, an amazaing statistic surfaced recently. U.S. organizations squader 2.8 billion dollars a year to power computers that are unused. That’s about 20 million tons of carbon dioxide roughly the equivalent of 4 million cars, thrown into the environment.  I know when I leave the Eagle at night, I somtimes forget to turn my PC off..what a waste!. It turns out that if the world’s 1 billion PCs were powered down just one night, it would save enough energy to light the Empire State Building-inside and out-for over 30 years. I guess workers don’t feel responsible for the electicity bills at work. It so simple to turn off your PC, takes about 1 or 2 seconds, and you are saving your company money, your saving the environment and it really will make a huge difference over time. I would tell you more, but I’m going to turn off my computer now…….see you next blog.

atish_7133972Wanna play some catch??  Atish is a handsome, energetic. sweet, and playful young man, always ready to fetch.  He can even snatch the ball in mid-air.  Atish has good leash manners, and is looking for someone to continue his positive training.  Because he can play rather rough sometimes, he needs a home with kids at least 14 years old.  Canine friends are probably OK, but not cats.  Find out more about Atish and other fine dogs looking for a good home at Placer SPCA.org.

davin200Seems like more people than ever are playing poker.  If you had to point to a defining moment that kicked off “the poker boom”, it would have to be when little-known Chris Moneymaker, an accountant by trade, parlayed a 40 dollar online satellite into the biggest win of his life, 2.5  million dollars in the Main Event of the 2003 WSOP… the most prestigious poker title in the world.  Chris qualified online because there wasn’t a legal poker room within four hours of his home.  In Sacramento, we have Capitol Casino, an official WSOP satellite.  Saturday, April 4, Capitol is hosting the first of two WSOP Main Event satellite tournaments, and for a $220 buy in, you can win a 10K seat to the Main Event in Las Vegas.  Tournament director Davin Anderson knows a little something about the Main Event…. He finished 25th in 2004, the Greg Raymer year…. And won $120,000.  That’s Davin, the “Kamikaze Korean” in the center.

liveandletdie-200x150In what might be a complete no brainer, Paul McCartney’s “Live and Let Die” has been voted the best “James Bond” song ever. The song was the first Bond theme nominated for an Oscar, received close to a quarter of the votes, in a British poll. The next two on the list are Shirley Bassey’s “Goldfinger” and “Diamonds Are Forever.”

new-burger-200x150A baseball park in Michigan has created an artery busting hamburger that packs a whopping 4,800 calories!!! We’re talking five beef patties that weigh a third of a pound….EACH!!! The patties are smothered with chili, salsa, sour cream, nacho cheese, frito chips, lettuce, tomato and 5 slices of cheese, all on a bun made out of a pound of dough.  Along with twice the daily recommended caloric intake, the burger contains 300 grams of fat, 744 milligrams of cholesterol and more than 10,000 milligrams of sodium. But other than that…….rule of thumb? NEVER eat anything bigger than your head!
