tiger200I love Tiger.  I’m quick to give him the benefit of the doubt.  If he were to say…”My private life is nobody’s business..”… I’m fine with that.  I mean it’s not like he was in a stupor on the lawn of a Hooters.  But when you and your people decide to concoct a story that is so utterly preposterous…. you will get some heat.  Apparently you were injured after you hit a fire hydrant at about 5 mph.  My favorite line from the cops… “He was drifting in and out of consciousness..”  Right.  Miguel Cotto wasn’t drifting in and out of consciousness… and he got pounded for 12 rounds by Manny Pacquiao.  Somebody’s got some splainin’ to do.

new tree-200x150Tis the season to deck those halls! Here are some easy ways to decorate your home in an environmentally friendly way:

  • Buy a living Christmas tree and plant it outside after Christmas. Make sure you dig the hole before the ground freezes.
  • If you do buy a cut Christmas tree, take it to a tree collection center so it will be recycled for mulch for use in city’s parks and does not become part of a landfill. When decorating the tree, minimize the size and amount of electric lights to save energy. Use decorations like strings of popcorn or dried cranberries, which can be fed to birds after the holidays.  Operating lights for no more than six evening hours a day keeps energy use and costs under control. Timers are a simple and safe way to turn lights off. For safety, always unplug lights before going to bed or leaving home.  Use energy efficient lighting. LED light strings use one-tenth the energy of incandescent lights. New “icicle-style” lights use more lights per linear foot than regular light strands and use more energy.

face200I was talking to Monica Lowe about this…  the new realities of cyberworld.   I don’t really talk to my neighbor… but a guy in prison just  “friended”  me.  I don’t know my neighbor’s first name… but I know it’s “scrambled egg day” in B Yard.

donaghy200I thought the Tim Donaghy story was over.   Apparently the disgraced former NBA referee bet on far more games than previously disclosed…and picked winners at a staggering 79 percent clip.  This according to professional gambler James Battista, who conspired with Donaghy.  In tonight’s “Real Sports” on HBO, Battista says he and Donaghy bet on 47 games over four months and won 37 times.  Given that success, Bryant Gumbel asks Battista in the interview if he thinks that Donaghy fixed games.  After a long pause, Battista says:  “No comment.  But I will say he wasn’t getting paid unless we covered the spread.”  We know that Donaghy has admitted to gambling on 16 games that he officiated.   Are we expected to believe that none of the calls he made were influenced by his bets?   That’s laughable.  Yeah,  Pete Rose bet on games… but at least he wasn’t calling the balls and strikes.

lap200What’s going on in Las Vegas? Apparently, fewer hotel guests these days means some fantastic deals.  Even  upscale hotels like Wynn Las Vegas are discounting rooms to keep up occupancy.  The Mirage is marking its 20th anniversary with an $86 remodeled room package.…. Some hotels are going as low as $12.50 a night!  And limo drivers are begging for riders.  And here’s the jaw dropper…  Lap dances are not selling.  Yikes!  You know when the strippers are not drawing customers, we are in a recession.

face2facetour-200x150The Elton John/Billy Joel saga continues as now, the Face 2 Face Tour has been rescheduled, or completely cancelled in some areas.

The good news-the Oakland and San Jose shows will be made good. Look for Oakland Feb. 13th and San Jose Feb. 16th.

3mile200I guess I was under the impression that Three Mile Island, the site of the nation’s worst nuclear accident thirty years ago, was no longer a nuclear plant.   I was wrong.  Over the weekend, a minor radiation leak was reported there. According to officials, there was no threat to public safety.  I feel good now.  Of course, back in 1979, experts described that accident as a “minor malfunction”… and that “everything’s under control.”  We all know how well that turned out.
