moon200I remember when I was 4 or 5 years old…. walking down the steep steps of my grandma’s darkened basement.  I loved the sweet, musky aroma of the fermented rice she was preparing for my grandpa.  (I thought all grandmas did this…)  Yup, she was a sake making expert.  I guess it’s in my genes.  No, I can’t make sake… but I do enjoy a taste now and then.   Some pretty high end stuff out there now.  On a related note, Time reports that  moonshine is making a comeback.  Max Watman, author of the moonshine book Chasing the White Dog, found that more and more people are moonshining, despite the fact that penalties for getting caught are pretty severe.  Actually, there’s a ton of information out there on how to do it…you can even buy the gear and ingredients online.  I can tell you from experience, it’s not as easy as it looks.  And be careful what you’re sipping.  I had some premium stuff from Eastern Europe… that was so strong it will start the motor on my tractor…even on a cold day.

metro-pcs-express-200x150It’s another Friday, which means we have our MetroPCS Unlimited Express about to take off. How about 90 minutes of commercial free classic rock? Not a bad way to get headed towards the weekend. It’s Bob Keller, and we’ll kick it off after Mark and Brian at 10AM here on The Eagle.
In the meantime, check out the MetroPCS website.

sven200By now, anyone who’s watching the Olympics knows about Dutch star Sven Kramer, the most dominant speedskater in the world.  A week after infamously asking a television reporter “Are You Stupid?”….. he made a wrong lane change that cost him a gold medal in the 10,000 meters, a race he hadn’t lost in three years.   Yeah, it’ll be tough to live down one of the worst blunders in Olympic history.  Maybe it was retribution… or karma.  And there are plenty of people who are glad he lost.  But I saw the original question from the NBC reporter.  It was stupid.

new tpExciting news for folks who take frequent trips to the bathroom in the middle of the night. Now there’s “Glow-in-the dark” toilet paper! Yes, the soft florescent glow of the toilet tissue makes it easy to find the roll when ya gotta go in the dark.  Convenience, however, has its price – we’re talking almost ten bucks a roll!  One reviewer of the florescent TP gushes, “It’s actually the most useful glow-in-the-dark product ever!  If you plan on going camping make sure you take a couple of these rolls. This way you’ll be properly prepared should the call of nature visit you in the middle of the night.”

And if you take a night hike,  be sure to step over anything that glows…

Buckley aka Illusion_9276488“Wanna share my chew toy?”  Buckley is a handsome, playful 1 yr old terrier mix.  He knows basic commands, and walks politely on a gentle leader. Because he can be a bit independent, Buckley would do best in a forever home with NO other pets and kids 12+. Find out more about Buckley at placerspca.org.

draft200The Kings are trying to salvage some pride..  The Giants have arrived at Spring Training… and the Vancouver Olympics are wrapping up.  But for the football crazies (didn’t we just see the Super Bowl?),  there are only two seasons.  Football season…. and “getting ready for football season.”  Something  called “The NFL Combine” looms this weekend.    It’s a four-day pageant… where the nation’s top college players get to show how well they can run, jump and lift stuff.  Oh, and there’s an item in the Bleacher Report touting Alex Smith as a Top Five quarterback next season.  I’m getting sweaty……it’s never too early to get pumped.

Hippie festThis weekend, the tribe gathers at 7a this Saturday and joins the happening we call Say You Want a Revolution, our flashback to the 60s and early 70s. In the first hour we’ll start with the band that has a history that includes Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton. Dylan and the Band will be around, Hendrix will give us a twofer and Pink Floyd will play the very first single they ever released, about a nice guy who gets off on women’s undies..hey, who doesn’t? Then we’ll move into the 8am hour with the Doors, Traffic and our favorite rascals, the Rolling Stones. Buffalo Springfield will give us a Neil Young contribution, the Allman Brothers and Van Morrison will keep the big beat going and the Beatles will help us get behind the wheel..of our 68 VW van. Finally, the 9am hour will be a flashback to the year 1970, a time of loss, goodbye Jimi, goodbye Janis, but a time of rebirth, the first Earth day celebration..a year of hassles, rip-offs and put downs..gee, at least the music was great. From Derek and The Dominoes and the Grateful Dead to Chicago and Rare Earth..1970 will rock you. Here is a little trailer clip from the movie that won George C. Scott an Acadamy Award.

brand200Cops in Breckenridge, Colorado, said a Texas Christian University student who suffered burns when his fraternity brothers branded his butt…. was a willing participant in the act and, consequently, no charges will be filed.  And this is a surprise….the student admits there may have been drinking involved. At least he’ll be spotted if he gets separated from the herd.

Paul_McCartney-200x150It looks like Paul McCartney is about to announce a summer tour, as he is sprinkling out a couple of dates. They, so far have him landing March 28th at the Jobing.com Arena in Glendale, Arizona followed by March 30th at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. That will be his first performance there since 1965 with The Beatles.

Also, on Tom Petty’s website, they mention that they have a major announcement to make next week. It’s rumored that will be a summer tour as well.

apolo200It is kind of an odd site.  I’m sure you’ve noticed that Olympic star Apolo Ohno likes to yawn before his speedskating events. Apparently, for the most decorated US Winter Olympian of all time, this is all part of his strategy… to get extra oxygen into his lungs just before the big moment.  Sounds good to me… but you are making me yawn right now….
