I see that the state of Missouri has just passed a new law that reduces hours, and bans alcohol and nudity at strip clubs.  This is hysterical.  They’re removing the three elements of what a strip club is.  Very little nudity, no booze and they close early.  We have a place like that in Sacramento… it’s called DMV.

Out in the wild suburbs of Davis, language itself is changing. It seems to me that the use of the polite term ‘you’re welcome’ is falling out of use. Is it just me or have you noticed this, too?

You’re at the grocery store, checking out, and the clerk hands you the receipt. You say, “Thank you,” as you have been trained to say. And the correct reply is, “You’re welcome.” But the clerk says, “No prob.” He says it in a very friendly manner, and you just go on, but it feels a little odd.

At the cafe later, now paying attention, you thank the waitress for something, refilling your glass of iced tea perhaps, and she gives you, “sure thing,” over her shoulder. The kid at the auto parts counter says, “righteous.” The receptionist at the dentist said, “It’s ok!”

It’s not ok. Common decency and simple politeness elevate us from the snails and monkeys. Please. Thank you. You’re welcome. Work with me here…. please. -Jobe

The stories of Led Zeppelin stealing from many blues artists could fill a book. Well, here comes another lawsuit some 40 years after “Dazed and Confused” came out.

Larisa…!

Posted in: Music News

Larisa Bryski & her band will open for Steve Miller July 17 @ Raley Field at the Eagle’s 20th anniversary concert. Get to the show early enough to catch them…!  Larisa has one of the FINEST female voices in the area (OK, I haven’t heard EVERYONE, but she’s damn good!)…you’ll hear influences from Pat Benetar & Annie Lennox, with Larisa’s own personality coming thru.  Here’s a link to her website where you can hear more www.larisabryski.com.  Her husband Willy is on guitar & vocals, Darrell Hale on drums, and Andrew Houston on bass.   –Besides being talented, she’s a truly NICE lady, in an arena with too many divas & bi*ches.   I’ve had the pleasure of working with Larisa at a number of Stairway to Stardom programs (an excellent Skip’s Music presentation)..where her students & coaches have always given her rave reviews. –*photo by Kevin Graft, an outstanding concert/band photographer* Rock on, Larisa!

Well we have a 4th of July weekend and we’ll celebrate our independence by expressing our freedom. Freaks, we will free up our souls with some sweet rock and roll from those days when we were young and feeling frisky. The Byrds, The Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead should satisfy our California roots. Let’s face it, the real cultural revolution took place here in the Golden State, eventually everyone figured out we were having a good time and they joined in also. Neil Young will bust out with some early Crazy Horse stuff, Traffic will go into a long dreamy jam, perfect for inner reflection and George Harrison will show us why his soul was always searching for the inner peace. Procal Harum will show off why Robin Trower was their best guitar player ever and Rod Stewart will break from the faces and launch his solo career with some real flair. We’ll take a side trip to the White Album with the Beatles, hot off their enlightened trip with the Maharishi. And Leon Russell who is coming to Harlow’s soon, will step out onto the tightrope. Now, don’t you feel free. The revolution, a great intro into the Eagle’s top 200 classic rock songs of all time. The trip starts at 7am sharp, see you there.
