Ozzy will be in Sac Friday night for a book-signing at Barnes & Noble on Arden. His new book is “Trust Me, I’m Dr. Ozzy”–and it reminded me of the afternoon I spent 0n-air with him in 1987. Note the TURNTABLE tracking his vinyl album..the Randy Rhoads tribute. After chatting with the Prince of Darkness for a while–about the tragic loss of Randy..about his music–but also about his FAMILY life (his kids were basically toddlers at the time)…it occurred to me that here was a legendary rock god, fighting his demons, while also dealing with everyday family issues that all of us have encountered in our own family unit! –so, it was NO surprise to me when the Ozzy MTV reality show was such a curious hit. And it also won’t surprise me if his book becomes a best-seller. The man has some stories to tell–even if you have a hard time UNDERSTANDING him when he tells them.

Hangin’ last year at BarktoberFest..with Jiggy the Bulldog & pet parents Tracy & Mike. This year’s Barktoberfest happens this Sunday 10/2 at the same location (new name)..the grounds of Telefunken, in Roseville at Pleasant Grove and Foothills. Free admission!…and LOTS o’ dogs. The doggie parade happens at 10 a.m.–basically just a short stroll around the grounds with your pooch, in costume (or not)…on a leash. Then there will be lots of canine demonstrations…the Roseville PD K9 team is always amazing. Vendors on hand, including wine & beer this year. Come out & join the Eagle & the Placer SPCA for a dog-gone good time (ouch).

Don Felder turns 64 today (9/21). I got to hang with the ex-Eagles guitarist at a soundcheck a coupla years ago at Jackson Rancheria. What an AMAZING guitarist!..Don LEARNED to play slide from Duane Allman…and TAUGHT a young Tommy Petty how to play. And his 2008 autobiography “Heaven and Hell” is a fascinating look at his life, and the evolution of the Eagles (and one of the few BOOKS I’ve read in the last few years!). Happy b-day, Don…and go ahead…take a ride…on heavy metal.

Sweet Mamas is a wonderful 3 yr old terrier/pit mix who loves to be the center of attention. She also loves to play, & will drop her toys at your feet to play catch. Stairway Concert

This Sunday at high noon at the Crest Theater, 21 bands will hit the stage for the annual Stairway to Stardom Concert, brought to you by Skip’s Music. It’s my privilege to MC the festivities once again this year. The Stairway program, now in its 31st year, is an amazing music experience/education for the dozens of teenagers involved. Larisa Bryski is the Stairway coordinator, and she & the staff of coaches & mentors work with these folks for 8 weeks during the summer. They form bands, and help them write 3 original songs, which the band will perform on the stage in the “final concert” this Sunday, in front of a live crowd. The concert is open to the public, with tix $10 each and available at tickets.com or any Skip’s Music location. –I’ve seen some outstanding young musicians over the years..and even those who weren’t so–uh, “musically precocious”–still had a great time with the experience. You Can’t Handle the TOOTH

Seems even the Tooth Fairy is feeling the economic pinch. According to a recent survey of kids, the national average for a lost tooth is $2.60, down from 3 bucks just a coupla years ago. Children living on the West Coast are the Tooth Fairy’s favorites, with the average being $2.80–a bit more for front teeth & molars. –I lost a tooth a coupla years ago…the Tooth Fairy brought ME a new implant–AND a $ 1500 dental bill. Dan Peek, one of the founding members of America, passed away on Sunday at the age of 60. I have to admit….America is one of my “guilty pleasures.”–especially their early stuff, which had a Neil Young feel to it. Like Horse with No Name…Ventura Highway…Sister Golden Hair. Or deeper tracks like Sandman. OK, Muskrat Love–not so much. Peek left the band in 1977, and became a born-again Christian, & was a pioneer in the Christian rock musical genre. Dan is survived by the other 2 members of America, Dewey Bunnell & Gerry Beckley. Excuse me, while I ponder the philosophical implications of …”Oz never gave nothin to the Tin Man…that he didn’t already have.”

Ozzy’s Ferrari

Frankly, if I were a passenger in a Ferrari 458 Italia, I’d rather have Mr. Magoo at the wheel than Ozzy Osbourne. It took Ozzy almost 20 attempts before he finally passed his driver’s test. BUT..at least he HAS a license. Last December, Ozzy had a fender bender in his “old” Ferrari…hitting an attorney, no less. Ozzy: “Jeez…just my luck…I hit Perry Mason!” His car wasn’t damaged badly, but Ozzy wanted a new ride, and has been spotted on the road near his new home in Calabasas driving a 458 Italia similar to the pic (list=$ 240 K). “Oh, Magoo…you’ve done it again!”

Placer SPCA Dog of the Week: SPOTTY DOTTY

Yeah, his name is Spotty Dotty–because when this 6 month old stray arrived at the PSPCA, his fur was covered in pink & blue polka dots! He’s a pit/terrier mix, with a wonderful personality…loves people, and loves attention. Because he’s still a young dog, Spotty Dotty still needs to continue his positive training & basic obedience. With a slow introduction, he would probably do well with other animals in his new forever home. He also wouldn’t mind if he got a new name in his new home!
