Bob Dylan Plans To Release More From Bootleg Series

Bob Dylan is getting ready to release another set of bootlegs as part of his on going series. The Bootleg Series Vol. 9 will feature studio recordings from 1962-64, with Dylan’s 1962 self-titled debut through to 1967’s John Wesley Harding. Eight albums in all redone in mono to capture the original sound of the vinyl. Look for it in October.

..maybe the best guitarist you’ve never heard of–kudos if you have. Steve WAS named Best Guitarist for 5 yrs in a row by Guitar Player magazine in the 80’s..and was the founder of the cult fave Dixie Dregs. He also played on a coupla Kansas albums in the late 80’s, and for the last dozen years or so has been with Deep Purple. But as incredible as Steve is on the fretboard, that version of DP feels like a “tribute” band to me. Steve turns 56 today [7/28]..and about 20 yrs ago, lived in the El Dorado Hills area, occasionally coming to my studio to visit/perform. Besides being a helluva nice guy, he also worked part time as a commercial airline co-pilot. In my view…Steve Morse ranks right up there with the elite guitarists of all time, as far as technical proficiency. Too bad he’s not even MORE famous…

Elton John Rips Artists Who Won’t Play Arizona

Elton John played in Arizona last night, and went on an expletive laced tirade. Now, this isn’t behavior that should be shocking to anybody. Elton has been known to speak his mind in the past, but was refreshing to hear someone attack the artists who won’t play in Arizona, due to illegal immigrant legislation.

Making an interesting argument, John said in part, “Let’s face it: I still play in California, and as a gay man I have no legal rights whatsoever. So what the (expletive is) with these people?”

Could This Be the Final Tour For the Stones?

According to reports over the weekend, this next tour will be the last major tour for the Rolling Stones. The tour would kick off early next year, and last until 2011, hitting all of the typical stadium dates they normally play.

However, the Stones are denying those reports and retirement rumors.

By the time the tour concludes though, drummer Charlie Watts will be 71, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards will be 68, and Ron Wood will be 65. You could see where the rumors could be not that far from the truth, but the band keeps denying them. Stay tuned.

Bon Jovi In A Panic Over Raunchy Photos

Jon Bon Jovi is pretty upset with new (old) photos of him nearly nude, with a bunch of girls from 1985. They come with the bands former manager Rich Bozzett as a preview of his new book, Sex, Drugs and Bon Jovi.

The pics were locked away in a vault until last year. Bon Jovi is concerned that it could hurt is image with the ladies, but I think his credibility with men has skyrocketed. If you want to see the pics, TMZ has a couple. NSFW.

Eric Clapton New Album Coming By End of the Year

That, apparently is what the cover of the new Eric Clapton album will look like, which is rumored to be out by the end of the year.

It’s also a covers album, with songs originally done by Irving Berlin, Mose Allison, Fats Waller and others. Also look for his Crossroads DVD to be released in November.

Scorsese and Jagger Team Up For HBO Rock Series

Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger already have a strong relationship, having worked together on the Stones documentary, Shine A Light.

They also tried getting another show pitched a few years ago, to no avail. Now, they are said to be working on another HBO series, which would be titled, A History of Music. It would follow two friends and their 40 years in the music industry together, but it would be a different genre. From early R&B to contemporary hip-hop. Sopranos writer Terence Winter is also on board. Stay tuned.

Steve Miller Won’t Kiss Up To Rock and Roll Hall To Get In

Steve Miller had some choice words about getting into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He even took Co-Founder of the Hall Foundation, Jann Wenner to task.

“I think the Hall of Fame deal is all politics anyway. If I wanted to be in the Hall of Fame, I’d be up there _______ Jann Wenner and kissing his ass, playing that game. I don’t play that game. The Hall of Fame, to me, is so corny.”

Miller also says the Hall wanted his involvement, but only to take a chunk of his guitars for an exhibit.
